Definitions get redefined. Once upon a time, 'touch' meant some human interaction. It could have been applied to a friendly word or two, a hand shake, perhaps helping someone with their coat, maybe just a kind expression or look. We have now evolved in our restaurants to the technology of 'touch' - tapping those tablets and phones to make our wishes known, e-mail or play a game while we wait for our order, or pay the fare. Which is the true definition?
International tourism is set to hit a new record by the end of 2014 with over 1.1 billion international tourists travelling the world in one single year. During the first ten months of 2014, the number of international tourists grew by 5% according to the latest UNWTO World Tourism Barometer, rising above expectations.
More Southern Californians will travel over this Christmas-New Year's holiday than for any holiday since 2001, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's holiday travel forecast. More than 7.57 million Southland residents - and nearly 12.2 million statewide - are expected to travel 50 miles or more during the holiday travel period of Dec. 23 through Jan. 4. That's an increase of 3.2 percent over 2013.
The Peoples Republic of China has overtaken Germany as the worlds most travelled nation. By the end of 2014 more than 115 million foreign trips will have been undertaken from mainland China.
The economic situation in the United States and Canada is improving and with it has come a renewed increase in foreign trips in 2014. At the same time the weaker-performing economies of Brazil and Argentina have led to slower growth in tourism in South America. These are the findings of the ITB World Travel Trends Report, conducted by IPK International and commissioned by ITB Berlin, the worlds leading travel trade show.
