U.S. Unemployment Rate Unchanged At 4.1%
Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 148,000 in December, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.1 percent. Employment gains occurred in health care, construction, and manufacturing.
Jobless rates were lower in November than a year earlier in 304 of the 388 metropolitan areas, higher in 67, and unchanged in 17. Nonfarm payroll employment was up in 313 metropolitan areas over the year, down in 70, and unchanged in 5.
The four network airlines that collectively employ 64.7 percent of the scheduled passenger airline FTEs reported 2.1 percent more FTEs in October 2017 than in October 2016. Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and United Airlines increased FTEs from October 2016. Month-to-month, the number of network airline FTEs rose 0.3 percent from September to October.

U.S. scheduled passenger airlines employed 3.3 percent more workers in September 2017 than in September 2016, reaching 428,343 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees, the U.S. Department of Transportations Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported last week.
