U.S. Airline On-Time Performance Up, Cancellations Equal to Lowest Rate Ever
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) today released its January 2018 Air Travel Consumer Report on air carrier data compiled for the month of November 2017. In November, the reporting carriers posted an on-time arrival rate of 88.3 percent, up from both the 86.5 percent on-time rate in November 2016 and the 84.8 percent mark in October 2017, and the second highest rate ever reported. Airports Council International (ACI) World reported global airport passenger traffic up 6.4% in October 2017 compared to October 2016, significantly higher than the September comparison figure of 5.1% growth. Similarly, passenger traffic grew 6.4% year-to-date as of October 2017. Based on the trend, we can expect the global passenger market to achieve an annual growth rate of 6.5% in 2017, about the same rate as 2016. Read more
