The Canadian hotel industry reported increases in the three key performance metrics during the week of 6-12 April 2014, according to data from STR.

In year-over-year comparisons, occupancy increased 9.6 percent to 65.3 percent; average daily rate was up 2.9 percent to CAD$131.13; and revenue per available room increased 12.7 percent to CAD$85.65.

Among the provinces, Prince Edward Island experienced the highest increase in occupancy, up 21.4 percent to 35.5 percent. The largest decrease was reported by Nova Scotia, where occupancy fell 8.5 percent to 55.1 percent.

All provinces except Nova Scotia (-4.2 percent to CAD$113.50) experienced ADR increases. The highest increase was reported by British Columbia, where rates grew 6.6 percent to CAD$138.07.

Prince Edward Island (+24.0 percent to CAD$33.34) and British Columbia (+23.6 percent to CAD$92.14) reported the highest RevPAR increases for the week, largely driven by double-digit occupancy gains. Nova Scotia reported the only double-digit RevPAR decrease, down 12.3 percent to CAD$62.57.
