Concepts that have grown by at least 5% (if less than 50 units).

Freeport, ME-based GROUND ROUND (founded 1969) has increased by 7 units, from 23 to 30 (30% growth) and entered into NJ, OH, and SD.  These restaurants are family/casual concepts, serving American cuisine.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner, with a $8-$20 per person check average.  The restaurants have full bar and seating for about 200.  Catering and private party services are available.  All locations are franchised and trade in IA, ME, MI, MN, MO, ND, NJ, NY, OH, PA, SD, and WI.

New York, NY-based HALE & HEARTY SOUPS (founded 1995) has increased by 4 units, from 24 to 28 (17% growth).  These fast casual soup and sandwich shops are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a $4-$10 per person price range.  Units seat about 30 and offer catering, delivery, and online ordering services.  All locations are in NY.

Chicago, IL-based REZA'S RESTAURANT has increased by 1 unit, from 3 to 4 (33% growth).  This is an upscale Mediterranean concept, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is $15-$50+.  The restaurants have full bar and seating for about 450.  Catering and banquet services are available.  All locations are in IL.

PALM RESTAURANT headquartered in Washington, DC has increased by 1 unit for The Palm, from 29 to 30 (3% growth).  There is a second company concept called Huntting Inn (1).  Overall company increase is from 30 to 31 (3% company growth).  The Palm restaurants are upscale steakhouses with full bar and seating for around 250.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $15-$50.  Catering and banquets are offered.  Locations are in CA, CO, DC, FL, GA, IL, MA, NC, NJ, NV, NY, PA, TN, TX and VA.

BOB EVAN’S based in Columbus, OH (NASDAQ: BOBE; founded 1953) has increased by 2 units for Bob Evans, from 563 to 565 (1% growth).  Their second company concept is called Mimi's Café (145).  Overall company is increase from 708 to 710 (1% company growth).  These are family/casual restaurants with seating for around 150.  Per person check average is around $2-$12.  Trading areas are AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MD, MI, MO, NC, NE, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA and WV.

Emerging and Re-emerging Concepts

Concepts with 20 units or less who grew by at least 2 units.

Sarasota, FL-based LINKSTERS MANAGEMENT (founded 2001) has increased by 1 unit for the Linksters Tap Room concept, from 9 to 10 (11% concept growth) and by 1 unit for Paddy Wagon Irish Pub, from 1 to 2 (100% concept growth).  Other company concepts include Legends Sports Pub (1), Mr Bigs 19th Hole (1), Smokin' Joes (1), and The Old Venice Pub (1).  Overall company increase was from 14 to 16 (14% growth).  The restaurant concepts are family/casual, serving American cuisine.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner, with an $8-$20 per person check average.  The restaurants have full bar and seating for about 150.  All are located in FL.

Andover, MA-based BURTON'S GRILL has increased by 3 units, from 7 to 10 (43% growth) and entered into SC.  This is an upscale concept, serving American cuisine.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner, with a $15-$50+ per person check average.  The restaurants have full bar and seat about 200.  Catering service is available.  Trading areas are CT, MA, NH, SC, and VA.

Bradenton, FL-based FIRST WATCH RESTAURANTS (founded 1983) has increased by 2 units, from 102 to 104 (2% growth) and entered into GA.  The restaurants are family/casual, specializing in breakfast foods.  Meal periods are breakfast and lunch, with a $4-$10 per person check average.  Units seat about 150.  Trading areas are AZ, FL, GA, IN, KS, KY, MD, MO, OH, OK, PA, TN, VA, WI, and WV.  Franchising is available.  We last featured this concept on 4/17/12 (20% growth).

Broomfield, CO-based NOODLES & CO (founded 1995) has increased by 37 units, from 296 to 333 (13% growth) and entered into CT, DE, and ID.  This is a fast casual noodle concept, open for lunch and dinner, with a $6-$12 per person price range.  Most locations serve beer/wine, some are full bar.  Trading areas are CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, MD, MI, MN, MO, NC, ND, NE, OH, OR, PA, TN, TX, UT, VA, and WI.  Franchising is available.  We last featured this concept on 8/30/11 (2% growth) and on 2/21/12 (8% growth).

MOUNTAIN MIKE’S PIZZA based in Hayward, CA (founded 1978) has increased by 1 unit, from 150 to 151 (1% growth).  These are quick serve restaurants with seating for around 50.  Beer and wine are served.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $4-$10.  Locations are more than 90% franchised and are in CA, NV, OR and UT. ! We featured this concept on 10/25/11 (1% growth) and on 3/27/12 (9% growth).
